BELARUS: Cuisine in exile

Recipes of Belarusian Cuisine in English and Swedish

Today, as many Belarusians have migrated from their homeland, it is vital to explore the tastes, flavors, and aromas of Belarusian cuisine, celebrating its rich heritage and cultural traditions. At the heart of this collection are not just recipes for draniki or babka, but the cherished memories they evoke: How did your grandmother prepare them? How did your children enjoy them when they were served?

At its core, this project aims to reconnect Belarusians living beyond their homeland and to honor the stories and traditions passed down through generations of grandmothers and mothers — keeping them vibrant and alive. This initiative offers Belarusian graphic designers and illustrators in exile an opportunity to express themselves, capturing the resilience, warmth, and spirit of our community.

The book, tentatively titled “Belarus: Cuisine in exile,” will be beautifully designed and serve as a curatorial exploration bridging the culinary and societal experiences of democracy and dictatorship.

Presented as a digital coffee table book, the collection will feature beloved Belarusian dishes with translations into Swedish and English. A printed version will be available on demand.
