Photo walks through different cities and places offer a perspective full of hope and optimism for Ukrainian children who have fled the war.
“Stockholm through the Eyes of Ukrainian Children” was a photo project launched by the artist and curator L. Christeseva in the summer of 2022. In the summer of 2023, Christeseva initiated similar activities in Oslo: “Oslo through the Eyes of Ukrainian Children.“
By bringing together Ukrainian children and youth for photo walks with professional photographers, Christeseva aims to support millions of children facing homelessness and orphanhood due to continuous wars and armed conflicts. With their little steps across different cities, she allows children to fill this world with curiosity, innocence, hopes, and new dreams, aligning with the UN’s Global Goals of peace and prosperity.
Starting in Stockholm in 2022, the project gradually extended to other cities. It has become an open platform, and many photographers have joined the movement in order to inspire children with the art of photography: “New York through the Eyes of Children,” “Paris through the Eyes of Children,” and many other cities and places.

Photographer Dmitrij Karpenko
Dmitrij Karpenko was introduced to photography by his father. His journey began with an analogue camera, a gift for his 10th birthday. Dmitrij would later pass on his knowledge to his son, Peter, as they ventured into the realm of digital photography together. During their walks, Dmitrij shared his expertise in mobile photography for Ukrainian children, a skill he mastered after his camera was stolen. Dmitrij holds a strong belief that engaging in photo walks with Ukrainian children can reignite their capacity to dream. He sees these walks not just as photography sessions but as transformative experiences, offering the children a chance to rediscover the beauty and potential in the world around them.
