Rose of Power

Roses of Ties: Denim Meets the Tie stages a material dialogue between denim – historically linked to labor and the working body — and the tie, a signifier of authority, discipline, and masculine-coded professionalism. By reconfiguring these textiles into rose-like forms, the work performs what theorist Elizabeth Wilson calls “the poetics of cloth,” where fashion becomes a site of social negotiation. In line with feminist material practices, the act of handcrafting destabilizes gendered and hierarchical associations embedded in dress codes. The piece reimagines power through touch and repetition, proposing care and craft as counter-narratives to capitalist and patriarchal structures of value.
