Press Release – Stockholm, 1 September 2025.
A Museum of Ties in Stockholm is a visionary museum concept exploring the meaning of human relationships in times of displacement and turbulence. The first of its kind in the world, it collects stories rather than objects, spreading messages of connection and resilience through workshops and lectures. By wearing Roses of Ties, we showcase the museum’s living collection and highlight memories woven into fabric. The Museum of Ties stands as a living archive of human stories. It is a Future Museum inviting reflection on the emotional and social threads of our era.
The museum’s growing collection already includes 1.250 ties, donated by the community, with new contributions arriving regularly. Each tie carries a story of absence and belonging, of love and sorrow, of memory and resilience.
Why is this museum relevant today?
Because we live in times of war, increased armed conflicts, displacement, and grief. The tie, once merely a symbol of status or power, has taken on a deeper meaning. It becomes a fragile yet powerful metaphor for the bonds between people—ties of family, friendship, and solidarity. It poses a profound question of our era: How many children are growing up without fathers today?
Situated next to the Army Museum, the Museum of Ties offers a stark contrast: it is not about weapons, but about lives. It is not a monument to war, but to human connections, resilience, and the stories we carry.
The Museum of Ties was founded by artist Ludmila Christeseva in collaboration with Ukrainian refugee women.
