Toolkit: Pepparkakshus for Peace project

Bake for Peace Day

Artten Gallery is launching BAKE FOR PEACE DAY on November 30th. We invite everyone to bake on this day and bring creative materials for our collective art installation between 13.00-19.00 to Artten Gallery. Fika will be provided. Our project reimagines Swedish traditions through diverse artistic expressions. Inspired by Ukrainian families in Sweden, the theme Peace reflects their longing for home and hope for harmony.

How to Join in the Stockholm area

You’re welcome to bake at home and bring any details you’d like to contribute to the project. We are looking for walls, roofs, figures and other contributions. On November 30th between 13.00-19.00, we invite everyone for fika to Artten Gallery and bring creative materials for our collective art installation.

About

The gingerbread house, or pepparkakshus, is a cherished Swedish tradition, widely crafted during Advent as part of the Christmas celebration. Expressed through various forms and decorations, this activity brings families together to create magical houses, share stories, and forge lasting memories. It embodies the spirit of togetherness while celebrating the joy of the winter holidays and the promise of a new beginning.

Each year, Swedish museums honor this national creative tradition through exhibitions and competitions, including those hosted by ArkDes in Stockholm.

How to Join from Around the World

Over the next two weeks, we invite you to take photos from your window and send them to artten@artten.se with the subject line: Pepparkakshus for Peace. These images will be crafted into a powerful visual presentation, forming an integral part of the pepparkaksinstallation.
