Artists in Residency on a Train is a pilot traveling craft residency across Sweden, bringing together women from Ukraine – who will travel by train – and Swedish women who will join Roses of Ties workshops at train stations in different cities across the country. Ukrainian women, shaped by war and migration, move through a country shaped by over 200 years of peace, collecting ties as well as stories and experiences from Swedish women along the way.
During these encounters, participants fold donated ties into roses, exchanging knowledge, experiences, and ways of being. The train becomes more than transport: it becomes a studio, a space for conversation, and a temporary community.
This pilot is the beginning of a larger idea – to continue developing the residency as a moving platform for connection across countries and contexts.
The project explores how travel can shift from a form of escape into a space of encounter.
