Roses of Ties: Wearing Memory
Art at Järvaveckan 2025 | June 11–14
This year at Järvaveckan, artist Ludmila Christeseva presents Roses of Ties: Wearing Memory — a poetic, participatory installation where hundreds of old ties are transformed into handcrafted roses. These vibrant brooches are meant to be worn close to the heart as symbols of love, remembrance, and resilience.
In a world where wardrobes are often filled with muted tones — grey, beige, black — we invite you to imagine something different. What if the future of fashion reflected not fear or conformity, but our deepest human values: love, hope, and courage?
The ties used in this project carry powerful stories. Many belonged to men who are no longer with us — lost to war, displacement, or silence. These fabrics are soaked in memory, representing the warmth of closeness and the quiet of absence. Today, millions of children grow up without their fathers — in exile, in conflict, in solitude. Through this project, these forgotten accessories are reborn as vivid roses — tokens of intimacy, grief, strength, and dreams.
